Most “best power strip” posts are the same Amazon listing five times. Skip that. Decide the shape first, then read the watt number on the USB-C line. The boxes below are the shoppable picks. The table is how to choose.
What actually matters
Shape. Wall tap stays on the outlet. Strip sits on a desk or floor. Tower stands up when you have height but no width.
The plug. A fat brick blocks the next socket. A flat plug sits flush behind a TV or dresser. If it lives behind furniture, the flat plug is the feature.
Joules, not the word “surge.” Under 400 is light. 1,000+ is the usual desk range. No joule number means it is just extra outlets.
USB watts, not USB holes. Four USB-A ports that share 15W will not fast-charge a modern phone. If the listing does not say USB-C PD and a watt number (20W, 30W, 45W), treat it as a trickle port.
Why the phone still charges slowly
Fast charging is a handshake between the brick, the cable, and the phone. One weak link and you get the slow 5W rate.
- The strip’s USB port is USB-A only, or USB-C with no PD/PPS in the spec.
- The cable has no e-marker chip. Cheap ones cap far below the brick’s watt rating.
- The phone wants USB-C PD (and often PPS). A “65W” laptop brick without PPS can still dribble.
- The phone is warm, or already past about 80%. Both slow the charge on purpose.
Need the phone topped up before you leave? Use the charger that came with it, or a USB-C PD brick that lists PPS. Use the strip for lamps, monitors, and everything that does not care.

None of these five do USB-C Power Delivery. The USB-C port is 5 volts, about 15W. That is why a phone still crawls. The 1,250W–1,875W on the box is the wall load — lamps, a PC, a TV — not what goes into the phone.

Quick answers
Is a surge protector the same as a power strip?
No. A power strip is extra outlets. A surge protector adds a joule rating that takes the hit in a spike. No joule number means it is just a strip.
Will a 100W strip fast-charge my phone?
Only if a USB-C port lists PD (and PPS for a lot of Androids), and the cable is rated for it. “100W” on the whole strip often means all outlets combined.
Can I daisy-chain two strips?
Do not. Plug the strip into the wall. Plug the devices into the strip.
